Bascinet
With Attached Aventail

The bascinet was commonly worn with an attached drape of maille, called an aventail. This added a great degree of protection to the neck, which the bascinet otherwise lacked.

The bascinet shown below sports an attached aventail. The aventail itself is high quality welded stainless maille, made by Master Knuut. I built the helm, attached the vervelles, and mounted the aventail.

The disgruntled model for this picture is my brother. ;)
